NSWGGA Annual Confernece May 14-16

On 14-16 May 64 members and their partners attended the 2010 NSWGGA Conference at Wiseman’s Retreat. The program was well received by all attendees who found the seminars very educational and interesting and the venue a pleasant and comfortable break for the few days. The seminars covered a range of topics including: SWA outcomes, Standards update; AGGA strategic plan; NSW economic update; an engineer’s perspective of the use of glass in buildings and an entertaining lifestyle session on how to look after ourselves better. Many thanks to our speakers Jamie Rice, Lachlan Austin, Nigel Carpenter, Paul Ritchie, Beres Dowdle and Anna-Loiuse Bovier.

The conference was well supported by our sponsor including major sponsors Sydney Glass, Guarde Software, Viridian, CRL and CSI. Other sponsor for the conference included Express Glass, Holley Engineering, Bent & Curved Glass, Quattro Lifts, Dorma, NanoCoat and MFG Systems.

On Saturday night we presented the award for Glass Person of the Year to Bob Potter, who recently retired from AGP and has been in the industry since 1956 when he started with Frank G O’Brien. Bob worked on many notable projects in his time in the industry and also was the TAFE liaison for the NSWGGA committee for a number of years.

Once again Greg & Bev Hayes did a fantastic job in organising the conference and their efforts were appreciated by all. Thanks also to Greg Stories for his work in running the Golf on Saturday afternoon in which Nigel and Janette Penrose won the major prizes.
